Birmingham Meetup
Last updated (26th October 2004)
After a somewhat disorganised event at york in the summer, Hally, having moved down to the Birmingham area decided to try her hand at another event... A trip to Cadbury World...
Hally's Review
On a wet day in October we set off for our trip to Cadbury World in Bournville, near Birmingham.
Despite a shakey start with people not being able to see us (despite a massive banner - we learnt that one from York...) and people getting stuck in traffic and on trains due to the rain, 19 people came along and we had a great time.
We got plenty of free chocolate (Hally's idea of heaven) and generally had a great time.
After Cadbury World we went for a meal at the Bulls Head Pub in Kings Norton. It was a great opportunity to chat with people face to face.
Thank you to everyone who attended. We hope to meet you again sometime!
dUm's Review
And to think... It all started out so well... :)
After the chaos behind the York event, and the glorious weather we had then, we should have known we were asking for trouble with this event. Despite all our hard work, lots of planning, and heavy advertising... Things still went wrong...
OK, so we can't control the weather, so we had to suffer heavy rain... And we can't control the traffic, and trains, so people didn't make it there at the planned time, but these are pretty minor things...
And that what I loved about this event. We had a great group of people, who forgave our mistakes (lack of maps being a BIG oversight), and helped out when we needed them (a big thank you to Alcalpone for saving the day with his credit card).
Like Hally has said, we had a bigger crowd than we initially had hoped for, 15 adults, and 4 kids. With the kids storming off to grab as much free chocolate as possible (and who can blame them), we got split into two groups, but met up at the end and went for the meal together.
I'd like to thank everyone for attending, and for helping out with lifts etc. I'd also like to thank you all for the encouragement and responses after the event. We hadn't quite realised the stress involved with running events like this, so your comments and feedback have really given us a sense of achievement.
Due to a disagreement between Adam and his ex-wife, the Gallery section of the site and pictures form this meetup have been taken off-line until further notice.
