Wydale Weekend - 6th to 9th May 2005

Last updated (22nd November 2004)

Wydale Hall is the Retreat Centre for the York Diocese. Located in its own wooded grounds and gardens close to the North York Moors National Park in the north east of England, it is a gracious former country house, much of which dates back to 1781.

So what does that mean to us?
Because its a self contained Christian convention centre, who like group bookings, it means we can plan a Christian singles event. There will be room for around 30 people, sleeping in bunks. We're aiming to open the event up to UK Christian Singles in the 20-something age range.

So what are you going to do there?
Our main aim is to provide a safe environment for people to gather and make friends and enjoy Christian fellowship. We'll also be running teaching sessions, centred on topics like making the Bible relevant to modern Christians, youth work, and worship leading. There'll also be time to worship together (presuming at least a few people are musically talented).
Part of the price of attending will cover the food, which dUm has already volunteered to do, so expect some weird concoctions or amazing masterpieces. The evenings will then be free to wander around the grounds and use Wydale's leisure facilities, or more likely, spend the time relaxing, chilling and having a laugh.

This event, due to the limited places, will be a charged for event, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Final prices are in the air but we requre a £5 deposit if you would like to come so that we can reserve the accomodation.

Update: We've got the preliminary pricing details through. Theres roughly 30 places (15 boys and 15 girls). Its likely to cost around 15 to 20 pounds a night, and we are currently thinking starting on a friday and leaving on a monday (3 nights). These details are just basic guidelines at the moment.

New Details - 22nd November
We've got the preliminary itinery and menu's sorted, and we're in the process of arranging a coach to pick people York railway station, so here we go:

Friday

  • We'll be there from around 5 pm, ready to meet and greet people as they arrive. The evening entertainment is basically to relax and maybe watch a few movies, sing a few songs and stuff our faces with pizza
  • This will also probably be the time when we celebrate dUm's 25th birthday

Saturday

  • AM - After breakfast (cereal, fry-ups, yogurts, and other such stuff), dUm will be running a short prayer session
  • From there, we'll be going into Whitby for a few hours, giving people a chance to brave the 99 steps to the abbey, or just enjoy real fish and chips
  • PM - In the evening, we'll be having a praise party, led by Hally, while tucking into a big plate full of dipping stuff, e.g. crisps, chicken nuggets etc

Sunday

  • AM - We'll start the day off with another big breakfast
  • From there we'll have a morning session of sharing. What this will be is an oppurtunity to share an aspect of your faith, a verse or song that holds special meaning to you etc.
  • After that, we'll have communion
  • PM - Lunch will be a roast dinner
  • After that we'll make use of the centre's sports facility to do something like a five-aside competition
  • Or if you don't fancy that, Hally will be running an arts and crafts session
  • (we're sure we can find someway to work the Bible into these ;) )
  • Evening - In the evening, we're wanting to run an Issues session, allowing people to debate and discuss issues affecting 20-somethings in the church today. Hally wants to discuss how the church treats people with disabilities...
  • (while eating one of dUm's amazing spag bol's)

Monday

  • After another hearty breakfast, it will be a mad rush to tidy up
  • Followed by a quick prayer session
